Franchise Information

Thinking of franchising your business?

Franchising allows companies to expand geographically without investing large amounts of money, by using independent third parties.

The franchisor grants a licence to a franchisee giving them the right to operate a business under the franchisor’s name, using their operating systems, methodologies and know how, for a set period of time.

In return, the franchisor normally receives an initial licence fee that covers the costs associated with franchising the business, and an ongoing management services fee by way of a percentage of the franchisee's turnover.

Franchising provides businesses with the opportunity to expand regionally and nationally for less money and faster than traditional forms of company-financed expansion.

Thinking of buying a franchise?

Taking on a franchise is an option worth considering for anyone who wants to run a business but doesn't have a specific business idea or prefers the security provided by an established concept.

The right franchise can give you a head start. Instead of setting up a business from scratch, you use a proven business idea.  Typically, you trade under the brand name of the business offering you the francshise and they also give you help and support.

Successful franchises have a much lower failure rate than completely new businesses.  However, you will still need to work hard to make the franchise a success and you may have to sacrifice some of your own business ideas to fit in with the franchisor's terms.

Well known business that offer franchises include Prontaprint, Dyno-Rod, McDonald's and Coffee Republic.
